What solar actually saves you
Solar is sold on generation figures. It pays on consumption figures. Here is the honest version of how a system earns back what it costs.

- 01
Lower bills, from day one
Every kilowatt-hour you generate and use is one you are not buying at the day rate. That is where most of the saving comes from, which is why sizing to your usage matters more than filling the roof.
- 02
Less exposure to the grid
A battery carries your own generation into the evening, when you use most and the grid charges most. It also keeps the essentials running through a cut.
- 03
Income from what you export
What you do not use is exported, and the Smart Export Guarantee means your supplier pays you for it. Rates vary by supplier, so it is worth shopping the tariff once you are live.
Numbers you can check
The warranty terms come from the manufacturers, the VAT rate from HMRC, and the export payment from your supplier. The install count is ours, and we update it.

The same house, two ways
Nothing about your roof changes. What changes is whether the sunlight landing on it is worth anything to you.
Without solar
- Every unit bought at the day rate, whatever it moves to next
- Standing charges and price caps entirely outside your control
- Nothing to show for a south-facing roof sitting in full sun
- An EV charged at grid rates, overnight tariff permitting
- No protection when the supply goes down
With solar and storage
- Most daytime usage covered by your own generation
- A fixed, known capital cost instead of an open-ended bill
- Export income for the surplus, paid by your supplier
- The car charged from the roof whenever the sun is out
- Battery backup keeping the essentials running through a cut
